I took this photo during a visit to Peter and Sally in Northumberland in 2011. I have no idea what the flower is, but I love the shape. Thanks for the ID Ashley - Globe thistles - Echinops.
I went for a follow up visit to the surgeon today and he said that the sharp, shooting pains that I have been experiencing are due to the plate and screws. He said that they probably need to come out and has booked me in for surgery on the 20th March - I was hoping that they would cause no problems and could stay there forever. I could have gone in next week, but Peter is booked in for his followup surgery on Friday - we are keeping the hospitals in business, aren't we? I hope that this will be the end of both our problems.
