These are some photos of Taronga Zoo's newest addition to the elephant herd. After the amazing miracle of his birth he is now 6 months old and doing well. In the last photo you can also see Luc Chai who is now 1 year old sleeping between the feet of the female elephants who were watching over him. When he awoke he joined Pathi Harn in some playful antics and below is an excerpt taken from a newspaper the day after Pathi Harn was born.

Declared a miracle after experts were convinced the male elephant had died in his mother's womb, the 100kg calf nicknamed "Mr Shuffles'' was slowly becoming stronger after entering the world at 3.27am on Wednesday.
Every scientific test - and reportedly even the behaviour of the zoo's other elephants - had indicated he had died in his mother Porntip's womb.
