Elephant crossing

Today we decided to drive into Kruger from Hazyview through the Phabeni Gate which is only 15 minutes from where we are staying..

We were only in the park for about 30 minutes when a warning light came on on the dash saying we had a flat tyre. Peter got out to have a look and although it looked okay, he heard a hissing sound and we drove back a little way (before it went completely flat) to a place where we had seen some workmen repairing a bridge guarded by an armed guard. We thought it would be safer to replace the tyre there.

The workmen tried to get the wheel off but they (including Peter) couldn't figure out how to get four of the nuts off so they could take the wheel off and put on the spare. Peter thought that maybe you needed a special tool to remove the covers. After a couple of calls to the hire car company, they told us that they were sending someone from Nelspruit with a replacement. While we were waiting a service man came by in another VW and we waved him down and after a while he removed the covers and he put on the new tyre. We thought that they were bringing a replacement tyre, but after a couple of hours, up rolled a tow truck with another VW Tiguan on the back - they replaced the car - good service in my opinion.

After a 3 hour delay, we were on our way, but our time in the park was shortened drastically.
