This form of painting gained popularity in Ireland during the eighteenth century, primarily due to the work of the Flemish painter Peter de Gree. This painting, along with the others in this room, was painted by de Gree for the Dublin townhouse of David La Touche at 52 St. Stephen's Green, in about 1786.I
