Bedford Tower
Dublin Castle. Bedford Tower. The Bedford Tower, completed in 1751, was constructed from brick with stone dressing made of Wicklow granite, designed to harmonize with the surrounding architecture of the Upper Castle Yard. The building features a two-story façade with five bays and a three-bay breakfront. The ground floor exhibits rustication, with a central arcade of three bays that supports a pedimented Scamozzian Ionic loggia on the first floor. This gallery was intended for the State Musicians who performed during official state events. The tower is topped with a green copper ogee dome, the first of its kind in Dublin.
