Wynn's Castle

Wynn's Castle (also known as Wynne's Folly, Headley Towers, or Glenbeigh Towers Castle) are the ruins of a castle-like palace built for Lord Headley Wynn(e) south of the village of Glenbeigh on the Ring of Kerry on the Iveragh Peninsula.

Wynn's Castle was constructed as a castellated mansion by the architect Edward William Godwin for Charles Allanson-Winn, the 4th Baron Headley, in 1867. The funds for the construction were obtained from the tenants' rents on his estate. As the costs of the build escalated, the rents were increased, resulting in hundreds of tenants being unable to pay and facing eviction. Shortly after the castle was completed, the Baron became insolvent and left Glenbeigh. In 1921, Republican forces burned the castle to the ground, and it was never rebuilt.
