Ash Lawn-Highland

Ash Lawn-Highland, the home of James Monroe, fifth President of the United States. Monroe purchased the property, near to Monticello, home of his friend Thomas Jefferson, in 1793. Monroe lived in this smaller farm. The larger addition to the left was built later in the 19th century, after Monroe's time.
