Dancing Cockroach Leg

Backyard Brains (motto: Neuroscience for Everyone!) showed this at the Ann Arbor Maker Faire. They take audio from an iPod, low pass filter to get the beat, feed it through some circuitry, and use it to stimulate a disembodied cockroach leg. The leg can stay alive for days because it doesn't depend on blood circulation to supply oxygen to the muscles.

The same outift has also produced the first commercially available cyborg. They take a remote control from a hexbot, install the receiver and some circuitry in a backpack, and they can control the cockroach with the remote control just like you'd drive a remote control car.
