The next time...

When I realized that my dahlia plants were being devoured by the once tiny green grasshopper, which I also then realized was a growing katydid, I made a decision. I would let the katydid have the pot of dahlias: katydids choose a home and then devour it. I figured as long as she would allow me to pester her with my camera, she could stay. And, strangely enough, she seemed to understand. She never hid from me, even though I had to practically touch her with my camera. I grew rather fond of this squatter.

Here, the katydid has grown considerably since the first time I spotted her on the flowers, standing much larger than the dahlia bud. She is looking right back at me.
