Tangier Morocco, Dar Jameel (SAM_1762)

Dar Jameel is a riad type magical place to stay for about $42 dollars a night. It is behind the Hotel Continental which is a famous but faded hotel where many famous people stayed during the interzonal wide-open days of Tangier.

Dar Jameel has a wonderful rooftop terrace, Open and also enclosed for those cool Tangier nights. The people that work here and the owner are exceptional. So kind and helpful. And it is sincere. The owner of Dar Jameel even filled out my yellow passenger control form embarkation slip (You give this to the passport/police control Officer BEFORE you board ferry for Tarifa Spain) for the FRS ferry when I was leaving for Tarifa. Spain ( Please note: The White passenger control form/slip is for entry into Morocco ie: Tarifa to Tangier--Get it stamped onboard the ferry, during crossing, at the ships passport control office---you will see everybody lining up to do this onboard--Don't forget to do this!) Dar Jameel's owner did this because he saw I was anxious over the morning ferry being cancelled because of mechanical problems. His knowledge and assurance calmed me. As did his kindness. This place as you can see from this photo is something out of Arabian nights. Magical. It is only about 400 yards from the ferry terminal (Tangier Ville) Take the ferry from here to Tarifa Spain and vice versa if you can. The Tangier Med ferry terminal is like 40km away from Tangier Ville. FRS has a free bus from Algeciras to Tarifa and from Tarifa to Algeciras when you leave. It is right there as you walk of the ferry in Tarifa, and right outside Algiciras' Maritime Terminal. Easy to spot. A freebie. FRS is a good ferry line. I'm sure Intershipping ferry line is to but I did not take that one, and I do not know if they offer a free bus.

I guess you can tell I like Morocco. A lot of traveling's positive experiences is the people you meet and where you stay. I highly recommend staying at Dar Jameel. The breakfast is very good: Yogurt. Cereal. Fruit, Bananas Croissants, Different breads. Tea, coffee, real orange juice. And all served by a warm, welcoming staff. It is sincere to. Abed walked to the post office to get me stamps! A twenty minute walk! And packed me a big breakfast and walked me to my cab (200 yards) when I was leaving for Fez. I mean what American hotel would do that! This place and the people who work there are the best! And the owner is the best: A good man.

Regarding how I took the photo. I took it from the main floor, by bracing it on my lap as I sat, framing it thru the LCD display. Hope you like. I took a lot of pictures of Dar Jameel and from their rooftop terrace of Tangier and the beautiful port.

Visit Tangier. Visit Fez. Visit Chefchaouen and Volubilis. Visit Morocco. It is a photographers dream.
