For any PSP problem, the first thing to do is find out which model PSP you have. The model number is
printed at the top of the square label inside your PSP battery compartment and on the long white
sticker along the bottom edge of the console. Older "fat" PSP's will show PSP-1001 and the newer
PSP Slims will be either a PSP-2001 or PSP-3001. Pricing and repair options are different for each
model.
Not Reading UMD - Repair Price- $55
Generally this fault is a result of a damaged UMD laser. There is an important distinction to be made with this repair as sometimes this fault can be caused by a faulty mainboard. However for the most part the repair is simply a case of replacing the UMD laser inside your PSP. You will be able to tell if the mainboard is faulty as opposed to the laser as you won't hear the UMD spinning inside your PSP. You also won't see concentric circles at the bottom of your home screen. Feel free to send us a couple of UMD's if you feel that these could be at fault.
Cracked / Smashed LCD Screen - Repair Price- $75
If you have broken the LCD screen on your PSP, the inside may look as if it is bleeding an inky black substance. The screen on the outside may be completely intact however the inside will look like a smashed pane of glass. This repair could also be necessary if your screen has been short-circuited, you can tell that this has happened if you can't see anything on the screen but you can hear sound from both the speakers and the UMD drive spinning.
Button or Analog Joystick Faults - Repair Price- $40
With regards to the analogue joystick on the Sony PSP, this is an easy fault to diagnose and for the most part a straightforward repair. It is however a frustrating fault, and can make PSP games that rely on the analogue stick unusable (for example driving games, wrestling games, football games and free-roaming games such as GTA). You will find with this fault, that you do not have to touch anything on the PSP for some kind of movement to happen on screen. For example in a football game the player currently under control may run in one direction with out the analogue stick being moved. If your console is missing the analogue cap we can replace this within the cost of the repair.
Physical Damage to your PSP - Repair Price- $55
You should only book your console under this fault if you are certain that it is simply cosmetic damage. This fault is often coupled with other electrical faults; in which case you will need to book your console under 'free estimate'. Make sure to test that your PSP can still read games, turn on etc before ordering this fault. If you do experience any other faults with your Sony PSP, please book your console under 'free estimate' and one of our staff will contact you by email with a price.
Power Faults - Repair Price- $50
Generally power problems with the Sony PSP mean a fault with the mainboard. This can be replaced by Video Console Repair with an official Sony PSP motherboard. However repairs to a water damaged Sony PSP console can be complicated because it is unclear how much damage the liquid has caused. If the PSP has had a lot of water exposure, it can often affect not only the mainboard but other components. In this case our engineers will assess the extent of the fault and call or email you regarding any additional costs.
Unbricking Service / Firmware Problems - $45
This is a very common fault with the PSP console; it is generally caused when there is some problem with a routine firmware upgrade. For example if the power cable is removed during the update, this can cause the PSP to become what is known as 'bricked'. What this means is that the software built in to the mainboard of the console has become corrupt, preventing it from working. This problem can also occur if a user attempts to install customer firmware (for the purpose of playing backups, ISO or eboots from the memory card). Video Console Repair can fix this problem on the PSP 1000 by restoring the firmware to its previous state.
Faulty Power Port - Repair Price- $40
The PSP may have problems charging or holding its charge, perhaps the metal pin inside the port is damaged. This fault can occur through dropping the console whilst the charger is still in the console therefore damaging the port or simply through wear and tear. It may have happened due to a power surge through the charger. If you believe the charger may also be at fault please send this in with the console and one of our engineers will test it.
WiFi or Headphone Jack Repair - Repair Price- $45
The Sony PSP has a built in WiFi adapter, which, when there is a Wifi network present, it will be able to locate this and connect. This will enable the PSP to browse the Internet etc. However if your Sony PSP WiFi has stopped working it may not be able to discover the available network. If you are sure other devices are functioning correctly on this WiFi, your PSP WiFi circuit board may need replacing. Unfortuantely if the wifi fault is linked to a fault on the mainboard you may require a replacement official Sony PSP board, our engineers will contact you first if this is the case. It is advised that you include the headphones that you use when booking the PSP in for a headphone fault.
