"Forest Beauty" Western Tiger Swallowtail

Saw this lovely beauty at O'Neill Regional park which is located in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains in southern California. The valley areas contain native coast live oak and sycamore forests as well as meadows. The hillsides are covered in cactus, chaparral, scrub oak, buckthorn and mountain mahogany. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Caution is advised as the park is home to mountain lions and rattlesnakes.

This park holds special memories for me in that when I was a little girl, I had my first experience camping here. Currently, I am blessed to live nearby.
