This reproduction English manor house was built between 1937 and 1939 for Lady Ursula Hayward (formerly a Barr Smith) and Sir Edward Hayward businessman and managing director ofJohn Martins department store on a 40 acre site overlooking Adelaide. Upon his death in 1983 Sir Edward Hayward bequeathed the house and grounds and the art collection inside the house to the government of South Australia. It is now open to the public and the house is run by the Art Gallery of South Australia.
