Advanced Passenger Train APT-P 370001 at Derby RTC - Feb 1987

By the mid 1980’s a number of the APT-P train vehicles were being used for development purposes, often residing at the RTC in Derby. Here we see a rather forlorn looking Driving Trailer Second (DTS) 48101, with its nosecone raised to expose the buffers and drawhook with drophead buckeye coupling, stabled beside the Way & Works sidings at the RTC Derby in February 1987. This particular vehicle was subsequently scrapped, however seven APT-P vehicles including two DTS and two power cars are preserved at the Crewe Heritage Centre.
