Delphic Antinoos
Antinoos 1.84m tall (6 feet)
Delphi Museum, Greece
Parian marble statue of Antinoos, c 130-138 CE. The holes for a golden crown of laurel leaves and posture suggest that the deceased youth, beloved companion of the Roman Emperor Hadrian who drowned in the Nile, is shown in the act of crowning himself a demigod. He was worshipped all over the Greek world, and the oil polish suggests that this image was treated as a cult statue.
