This design was a combination of several different cultural styles. Originally created for the cover of a book, I had to try and balance some masculine and feminine elements as well as some Egyptian and Celtic themes.

 

The first element was a version of the 'Triple Moon' with an oak leaf in the center to suggest a more masculine flavor. With a chalice (feminine) above it to provide some balance, the combination of the sun and moon (at the top) was a fusion of the previous two elements.

 

To surround the alignment of the masculine and the feminine (and a primarily celtic theme) I added the winged serpents commonly found with Egyptian design. I drew the tails of the serpents to accentuate the wide hips seen in the 'Venus' figurine of early man.

 

Yes, I like to add many many layers in my design.
