The ancient village of Skara Brae (Orkney, Scotland, UK), UNESCO World Heritage site.
+++++
Skara Brae was built in two main
phases. Little is known about the
first, since further investigation would
require demolition of the later houses.
The building in front of you is one
of the earliest at Skara Brae. It has a
similar plan to the later houses, except
the box beds are built into the wall
rather than projecting into the room.
Right: The furniture was made from
local flagstones, which were readily
available and easy to shape.
