Matilda Tank

This Matilda was built as part of Contract T7717, dated 26th August 1939, part of an order for fifty tanks. It is of the first production type, with AEC diesel engines, but with BESA 7.92mm instead of Vickers machine-guns of earlier models. It was manufactured by the North British Locomotive Company in May 1941. It was put on the museum books in 1949. It is currently painted in the colours of the tank commanded by Lt. Colonel H.R.B. Foote when he won the Victoria Cross in Libya in 1941.
