Bad Hair Day

This very young Bald Eagle was resting in a tree at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge. The plumage of the immature Bald Eagle is a dark brown overlaid with messy white streaking until the fifth (rarely fourth, very rarely third) year, when it reaches sexual maturity. It has been very exciting to see the Bald Eagle’s return to the Sacramento area. The nice part about the Sacramento NWL Refuge is that social distancing is at its best as you must stay in your vehicle.
