Skittish Pheasant

Because of being heavily hunted, the Ring-Necked Pheasant is one of the hardest birds to capture a photo of. This bird was in the right place at the right time. He/She was so busy focusing on hunting for food that it hardly took notice of us. We love all the colors and patterns that grace the Pheasant’s body. Ring-necked Pheasants stride across open fields and weedy roadsides in the U.S. and southern Canada. Males sport iridescent copper-and-gold plumage, a red face, and a crisp white collar; their rooster-like crowing can be heard from up to a mile away.
