Blue Billed Ruddy

As we were walking the San Francisco Bay Trail in Sunnyvale we spotted this beautiful, lone Ruddy Duck. He was amongst a bunch of other ducks yet the only Ruddy we saw. With his blue bill and chestnut colored body he stood out like a sore thumb. There is a ton of wildlife that you can see while walking this trail, not the least of which is birds, butterflies, hawks, and ducks. Ruddy Ducks are compact, thick-necked waterfowl with seemingly oversized tails that they habitually hold upright. Breeding males are almost cartoonishly bold, with a sky-blue bill, shining white cheek patch, and gleaming chestnut body.
