Nesting Egret
You just never know where birds are going to nest. There is a very large tree right at the edge of Waterbird Regional Preserve, a 198-acre area comprised of a wetland and the associated uplands to the east. Every year numerous Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets and Great Blue Herons return to build their nest in a huge eucalyptus tree there. From a distance this tree looks as though it has been “TP’d.” The birds are currently in the process of nest building but it’s always fun to watch them flying back and forth gathering sticks. We can’t wait for the chicks to hatch and will be updating our Flickr pictures when that happens.
