North Wales Peer Mentoring 'Bubblegum machine day'

We believe that this photo captures the spirit of community leadership and people taking action within their own locality. The people in the photo are staff and clients from the North Wales Peer Mentoring Scheme. The Peer Mentoring Scheme helps and supports individuals who are or who have been affected by drug or alcohol misuse, to make positive, sustainable lifestyle changes.

Trained peer mentors encourage clients to engage in regular volunteering events that the scheme organises across North Wales. These volunteering events help to solve local problems through 3rd sector leadership and volunteer action, working alongside rather than for statutory services.

The sight of Llandudno’s Victorian streets defaced by discarded gum spurred locals to take matters into their own hands. This was the first of a growing number of schemes in which problems of neglect in North Wales neighbourhoods have been indentified and tackled at grass roots.
