I took this photo today with my old camera since I'm terrified of taking my new one out in -26 C (-15 F) weather. All of the trees are covered in hoarfrost under a beautiful blue sky.
Today, Yobs tagged me and I am supposed to list sixteen random things about me. So here goes:
1. Popcorn is my favourite comfort food ... of the salted, unbuttered variety (except in extreme emergencies when only butter will do)!
2. Benoît, my son, is the light of my life. Even though he is a teenager, I am enjoying every moment of these years, especially when he walks the dog.
3. I lived in Ottawa for sixteen years and worked for the federal government. I was a lawyer, specialising in refugee and international humanitarian law.I
4. For several years now, I've been medically retired because of a form of arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis. Stopping work was the hardest thing that I've dealt with. That's when I started gardening seriously.
5. Gardening nourishes my soul as few others things can ... I love every minute in my garden and completely lose track of time.
6. I was born on a Friday, the 13th. My dad used to tell me it meant that I was lucky... I'm not so sure : ))
7. Favourite flowers are Pinks, Scabiosa, Meadowrues, Barrenwort, Delphiniums ... and the list goes on, depending on what happens to be blooming in the garden.
8. Two summers ago, I sanded, painted and stenciled the entire length of my garage wall in flowers ... Foxgloves, Delphiniums, Alliums, Wisteria, Blackberry and Morning Glory vines. It took four solid months of work, but now I've got a perpetual garden to keep me going in the winter. It was my way of dealing with a painful breakup.
9. My favourite authors are Virginia Woolf and Laurie Colwin. I regularly reread their books.
10. Winter is my least favourite season and I wish sometimes I was a bear so I could hibernate until spring.
11. This past summer, my garden was on the annual garden tour here. All the hard work in getting the garden ready was worth it. I had a blast!
12. If left to my own devices, I'd stay up half the night. I love the quietness of night.
13. Since discovering Flickr, I've neglected my blog ... keep thinking I'll post to it as well .. maybe a New Year's resolution??
14. I play the mandolin and the violin but don't practise near enough (see #13). At least I think about them.
15. Books are my weakness ... I read constantly.
16. I have a black sense of humour which I try and keep in check.
