Untold Story

There's not much exiting about this image - except perhaps the untold story of what actually happened shortly after grabbing it from our Hostel window. For starters, the June snowstorm that kept us in Jasper for an extra day a couple of years ago, had transitioned to heavy rain. We needed to eat so we donned disposable ponchos and headed down this same footpath to the main street of Jasper right on the other side of the train tracks. There was a warning sign in the building that one might encounter bears on this path but naively, we were doubtful as it was located within the town. Not five minutes after we had returned along the same path and I snapped this picture, a grizzly bear hurried along the embankment on the left. In hot pursuit were a couple of Parks Canada staff with paint guns to encourage the animal along. Sadly, a year later the hostel had burned to the ground in the wildfire that devastated a third of the town. Hopefully, the bear survived - - paintball markings and all.
