Canada Is Burning

We came through the Thompson Okanagan Region in early June and even then, there was a heavy pall of forest fire smoke hanging in the air that made me feel claustrophobic despite the expansive view evident here. You felt it in your eyes and your chest. Seeing the remnants of a previous fire didn't help, I suppose.

Now, having just returned from another camping trip and listening to the news of tens of thousands of people either having to evacuate their homes or be on standby to do so, it feels like Canada is burning. Some of the areas we traveled through in British Columbia are closed off and vacationers are advised to change their plans as hotels try to accommodate the sudden influx of evacuees. It's a worrying time for all Canadians.
