Doubt About Spring
I came across the following poem when looking up snowdrops and it sums up the last week or so pretty well:
"I wonder if the sap is stirring yet,
If wintry birds are dreaming of a mate,
If frozen snowdrops feel as yet the sun
And crocus fires are kindling one by one:
Sing robin, sing:
I still am sore in doubt concerning Spring."
Christina Rossetti – from ‘ The First Spring Day’ (1830-1894) – English Poet
These snowdrops emerged on a hillside several days ago, which meant I didn't have to get down in the mud to capture an eye level view of them. They've since experienced heavy frost, snow, and rain, which left me in doubt about spring too - at least until today, which was finally warm and sunny.
