Trompe-l'oeil - Macro Monday - "Spiral"

I was trying really hard to avoid all of the usual spiral items (shells, snails, screws, coils of paper, tendrils…well, basically everything that Janet had in her gallery…) and I did have an interesting picture using a swirl pattern in pottery and cream but while exploring other options I happened upon this configuration and I've submitted it because this picture makes me laugh. It started when I found a spiral shell in a bottle of oil used as a lamp. I fished it out of the oil and set it on the deck railing to see how it would photograph. It leaked some oil on the railing but the oil gave it a nice reflection. I also found that if I was low enough I could get the cottage in the background which happens to be a tawny colour which looks a little like a sunset. I spread the oil all across the railing because the sun was bouncing off of the cottage and gave me a stream of light across the oil and suddenly it seems like a shell on the beach. Thus the title "Trompe-l'oiel" or (translated from french) "to deceive the eye". HMM.
