Antioch Mosaic
This floor mosaic was discovered in the 1930's during an architectural dig in Antioch, an ancient city outside what is now Antakya, Turkey. Called "The Worcester Hunt", it is the largest Antioch Mosaic in America. This enormous mosaic measuring 500 sq. ft. was part of a Roman House that had been destroyed in an earthquake in the year 526. Brought to America in five sections, each weighed more than a ton. The Mosaic was assembled on the floor of Worcester Art Museum's Renaissance Court. Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, MA
