Revo 'Lucidor'
A favourite of mine, and in this form a very stylish lantern that came from the stables of the famous Tipton based electrical manufacture REVO. This was the Lucidor, one of a range of similar looking lanterns launched in the 1960s to cater for 140 SOI / 90 SOX Watt and 60 Watt SOI / 40-35 Watt SOX sodium lamps. The example here is the 140 W / 90 Watt non-geared version for fitment to steel brackets such as the one shown. There were other non-geared versions too, but the gear-in-head models were ugly bulky affairs, which shared the same bowl (shade), but little else other than the REVO name.
The Lucidor range was also made under the ‘Relite’ name, but was out of production in the early to mid 1970s. The bulky gear version was resurrected under the later Simplex brand as a one off order for Merionethshire County Council (Gwynedd County Council) in 1980, the last of the line.
