1973 Bush Arena Hi-Fi in 2009
My late father bought this Bush Arena Hi-Fi music centre in 1973. At the time, it was a very exciting arrival into our home and a flurry of record purchases followed, ...as and when they could be afforded. The Bush Arena was certainly a much better record player than our previous turntable/radio deck. In terms of records a fair number of 45s were bought, but in terms of albums not that many, but Pink Floyd's, 'Dark side of the Moon' was an early purchase, and we still have it.
Anyway, the Hi-Fi is pictured looking very dusty on my late mother's sideboard in 2009. It had resided in this spot since new, but by 2009 was long disused.
When my mother sadly passed (not long after this photo was taken), I brought the Hi-Fi home with me, however, it no longer worked. The turntable had locked solid, this being due to the grease within the mechanicals drying out and gluing it up. Anyway, the record player was taken apart, cleaned, re-lubricated, and then reassembled. There are several videos on YouTube to show how this is done.
Today, the record player and radio still work, the record player still seeing occasional use. However, the cassette player no longer operates.
