Revo C13194T 'Silvergold' sodium street lighting lantern

A throw back to early 1950s Britain. The 140-watt 'Silvergold' low-pressure sodium lantern was an offering from the Revo Electric Co of Tipton. The Silvergold was so called because of its aluminium body and golden yellow glow. Primarily designed for street lighting use, the Silvergold also found use in industrial settings.

The Silvergold was replaced in the mid 1950s with a more modern looking sodium fitting that used some of the lantern's components.

This top-entry example had served an area of East London's Docks, until is was taken down during demolition works in c1982. Stored for decades in a garden shed in Barking, I acquired the fitting in circa 2009. Retaining its weathered patina, the lantern has been returned to working order.
