Hurriedly taken and therefore very slightly blurred, this image shows Chesterfield Atlantean No116 turning from the corner of Burlington Street into Stephenson Place, Chesterfield having just passed St Mary's and All Saints, the church famous for its crooked spire.
With far fewer people renting televisions, the town’s Visionhire TV rental shop has closed, a sign of a changing world and increasing prosperity in Britain during the mid 1980s. The influx of electronic goods into the UK from Japan heralded a new era in consumerism; the electronic age was upon us, the retail industry responded accordingly, and British manufacturing buckled irreparably under the pressure.
