Once cut off at ground level the traction pole is slowly lowered to the ground. These are incredibly heavy, and awkward objects to move about, so extreme care is needed in handling them. Note that then, there was no coning off of the road, no hard hats and no hi-viz jackets. It was only 24 years ago, but it was so different to today's world of Health & Safety.
