Bygone Clacton-on-Sea, Essex
Eastern National CN1001, YAL369 was a Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/1 with Metro-Cammell B44F body that had been new to East Midland (R369) in 1958. This vehicle and sister YAL 368 were acquired by Eastern National from East Midland in April 1971, but both would only last in service with EN until November 1972.
YAL369 is seen at work in the seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea in August 1972, as a smart looking Lotus Cortina passes in the opposite direction. Behind the bus is a standard Mk1 Cortina saloon followed by what looks like a elderly Duple bodied coach. On the roadside railings, posters advertise long time established comedians Tommy Trinder playing at the West Cliff Theatre Clacton, while Bob Monkhouse, and jazz musician Dennis Lotis, are appearing at the Ocean Threatre on Clacton Pier for the Summer season.
The Ocean theatre closed in 1978 and the Pier went into staedy decline. Thankfully it has been restored and is back in regular use.
