Last of the First

Derby CT 227 unloads in St James Street in Derby City Centre on 19th July 1983. The bus was one of the many Roe bodied Daimler Fleetlines that were owned and operated by Citys’ Transport Department.

Dating from 1969, 227 was from the last batch of the earlier deliveries of Fleetlines (172-239), which were purchased by the Transport Department between 1966 and 1969; some of them arriving as the last of the Corporation’s trolleybuses were being phased out. By the time this picture was taken, these earlier Fleetlines had less than 12-months service ahead of them, after which the majority would be sold for scrap.
