Trolleybus terminus at Penn, Wolverhampton, Circa 1949

A close-up of a picture from an Alfred Wiseman 'Overhead Line Material' book. It shows the trolleybus terminus at Penn, Wolverhampton in the late 1940s, or very early 1950s. The trolleybus is one of the pre-war Park Royal bodied Sunbeam trolleys from 1938. These buses were withdrawn from service between 1949 and 1952, some of them being sold on to Belfast Corporation for further service in 1952.

Today, this is a busy dual carriageway, but the shops and houses seen to the left of the picture still survive in 2009.
