Public Lighting Recognition No1. The Abacus Orion 4000.
Made by Abacus of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, the ‘is a large post-top lantern that is often used for amenity lighting. In the UK, you’ll see these lanterns in precincts, municipal car parks, garage forecourts and even in Tesco’s car parks. The lantern is designed to give full cut-off light distribution. I.E. that non of the light emitted from the lantern rises above the horizontal, but is all directed downward on to the surface below. Some fittings such as the one pictured are sometimes fitted with internal shielding to stop light spillage where it is not required.
