Saskatoon Transit System (STS) No167, Canada, 1969

Taken at the time of the first moon landing, the picture shows Saskatoon Transit System trolley coach 167 on a wet evening at Alexandria Rupert, on line 3.

The City of Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, Canada took the decision to replace its streetcars with trolley coaches (trolleybuses) in the mid 1940s.

Eight CCF-BrillT44 trolley coaches (150 - 157) inaugurated the City's first trolley coach route on 22nd November 1948. Further trolley coaches arrived in 1950, and the final batch 164 to 179 in 1951.

The original STS trolley coach fleet continued to operate until the early 1970s, when a decision was made to replace the electric fleet with diesel engined buses. The last trolley coach ran on 22nd May 1974.

Not all of STS's trolley coaches went immediately to scrap, several were sold to Vancouver for further use and trolley 177 was retained by STS for posterity. 177 now resides at a transport museum in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
