Donner Pass, California

This is the place I really wanted to see. I have always been fascinated with the people who went west in covered wagons. This spot is in the Sierra Nevada in the eastern part of California. The Donner party had to cross these mountains to get to Sacramento. It is a breathtaking view and a terrifying drive up to Donner Pass. Very few guard rails but it took my breath away. I bought a book about the Donner Party and read it aloud to Brooke while she drove. We were basically following their route but going east. (The Donner Party was a group of settlers who got stuck in the Sierra Nevada because it started snowing and they had to resort to cannibalism to survive. There is much more to their story, however, most of the survivors were women and children.)
