All Balanchine Ballet Program at Symphony Hall In Phoenix :: May 2-5, 2013
This was tricky to photograph... You can see the Moiré patterns in the sign.
The performances were gorgeous, exciting, and lots of fun! The dancers were wonderful. Seeing the all Balanchine program was very satisfying... It really is fascinating to see Miss Cecily enjoying and reacting to pieces and parts that she danced when she was a dancer in the Boston Ballet Company and later, with Robert (Bobbie) Blankshine, in the Berlin Oper. She can describe how she felt in different performances. And that's amazing...
Miss Cecily loved it all, so that says a lot about how good they all were. She did have some comments about differences. For example, that the tempo was quite a bit faster than when she danced Sanguinic... She feels it diminished the sanguine flavor of that role... To me it's amazing that she can still actually feel herself dancing as the dancers onstage perform... [A personal aside:] I guess it's like me, still reliving presentations I gave on anti-missile defense to very important people, so many years ago... I can still feel it, not just remember it... so I understand how it is possible that Cecily still feels the feelings she felt while dancing in actual performances, many years ago...
I really enjoyed when we shared our feelings about the individual dancers.... general impressions as to skill and beauty, technique and artistry. Also about specific details of what happened at various moments... Nothing is perfect, but this ballet night was way up there... I loved it... Phoenix's Ballet Arizona is a fabulous company! Yes yes yes...;))
Talking about it is bringing it all back... Delightful...;))
