Marblehead teachers and School Committee reach a deal to end the strike
Marblehead leaders brokered a tentative contract agreement with their striking teachers early Tuesday evening, ending one of the state’s longest educator strikes in decades, and following more than two weeks of stalemate that left more than 2,600 students out of class and forced the court to intervene.
Schools will reopen on Wednesday, according to a joint statement issued by the School Committee and union. The Marblehead Education Association is the second North Shore teachers union to secure a contract this month. Last Friday, teachers and paraprofessionals in Gloucester won higher pay and parental leave after striking for 15 days.
