Innocent Blood and Tears In Tucson
How prophetic... When I first created the original version of this image, it alarmed me... I wondered if it was a portend of disaster... If only I had known! Perhaps I could have done something to prevent it...

I am stunned!! It is horrible that our Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, was shot this last Sabbath. A mentally deranged young man walked up to her, as she was meeting a group of constituents in a shopping center, and shot her in the head. He shot 20 people. Six are dead, including a nine year old child... This very young girl had gone to see her Congresswoman in action, after she herself was elected to her student council. The chief federal judge in Arizona, John Roll, I believe, was also killed. (I dropped my son off and picked him up a few times at the Federal Courthouse when he was interning at the Pima County Courthouse two summers ago. There were orientation courses at the Federal Courthouse.) Judge Roll had just stopped by to wish Gabby well...
I feel devastated...
I did support Gabrielle Giffords' re-election two months ago. I posted a number of times on her Facebook page. She is a fine person and an excellent servant of the people, me included. Her husband says he is guardedly optimistic. She is responding to commands. I am praying for her speedy and complete recovery. I am totally shocked... Right now I feel depressed and very upset. it would be a miracle for her to be able to function in Congress again.
Casas Adobes is a lovely section of town, one of my favorites. That particular Safeway supermarket is across the street from Whole Foods, and there are some elegant restaurants in the area... And it's only a block from Tohono Chul Park, a little gem of a botanical garden, teahouse, and nursery where I frequently purchased native Sonoran Desert plants and seeds for my "Alhambra Botanical Garden."
I was not near the Safeway shopping center on the Sabbath when this terrible event occurred. It is just across town, only a 25-minute drive. Until one of my personal medical team moved her office, I shopped at this Safeway supermarket a few times a month.
Two of Cecily's teachers, The famous modern dancer, and teacher, and former Director of Jacob's Pillow, Norman Walker, whose choreography you have seen me shoot, and our own Miss Megan, whose photos you have also seen, each live a few blocks away from it, and this Safeway is their normal shopping place.
Congresswoman Giffords office is actually much closer to me. It is just a few traffic lights from my house. I pass it when I drive to Dunkin' Donuts, as I did on Friday, to buy ground roasted dark coffee to brew at home. DD is from Massachusetts, and I stopped at one near my home almost every day until coming to Tucson during May 2000.
Gabby has been threatened before and her office damaged. Sara Pallin posted a picture with gunsight crosshairs on this district. As Gaby said, about a year ago, "...there are consequences."
I am sorry for rambling... I didn't think I would discuss this on Flickr at all.
