On A Clear Day You Can See ... For Katharine...

I'm looking over some past photos...

 

Soon, when my car's air conditioner works again, I hope to drive up the highway on Mount Lemmon.

 

On a clear day, you can see the Gila National Forest in New Mexico from here!

 

This was an unplanned day trip so the only camera I had was my iPhone 4S... I remembered that Katharine Hanna identified the features seen from this outlook in a set of great photos she took of the view. She didn't take photos of the poster. Katharine, this is for you. It is the best I could do with my limited camera...;))

 

I remembered incorrectly. Katharine's photos were taken from Sykes Knob outlook. She did, however, refer to this poster: She wrote:

 

"You asked in your comment on this photo www.flickr.com/photos/goldengirl2011/9131281222/ whether I knew of a good atlas with mountains around Tucson identified. I don't know of one. The best thing I've seen for the view in the photo is an interpretive sign at the San Pedro Vista point which identifies several different mountain ranges in addition to the Galiuros. Of course, I did not think to take a photo of if when I was there. Will have to snap it next time I'm up there. I do use a topo map of the Catalinas which helps ID some locations."

 

This is a composite of two out of a number photos I took of a roadside poster that identifies landmarks and mountain ranges visible at the San Pedro Vista outlook. this outlook point is on the highway up Mount Lemmon on the way to Summerhaven.

 

I scaled and combined two photos using DoubleTake on my iMac. I cropped and added text in Pixelmator which uses layers and a has bunch of useful and fun tools. Then I sharpened and added a bit of contrast and saturation in iPhoto.

 

If my memory serves me, the San Pedro Vista outlook is at about 8000 feet or 2400 meters elevation above Tucson. Tucson's elevation is 2548 feet above sea level at Tucson International Airport .

Thank you so much for doing this, Chic. I will definitely refer to the image you generated if/when I need to ID land features in future photos. I had a bit of a challenge reading the name of the peak that's between the Pinaleño Mountains and the Winchester Mountains on the poster. Finally figured out that it's Bassett Peak, the highest point in the Galiuro Mountains [elevation7,663 ft. (2,336 m)]. I learn something new every day! :-) Thank you, again.

Katharine Hanna You are most welcome, Katharine. Yes, it is Bassett Peak. It got blurred as i was fitting two photos together. I will post the individual photos. Sorry I didn't notice that before I posted it...;)) Thanks for looking up its elevation. I believe that's close to the elevation of Summerhaven.
