Deep Purple

When The Deep Purple Falls Over Sleepy Garden Walls

"When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls

And the stars begin to twinkle in the sky—

In the mist of a memory you wander back to me

Breathing my name with a sigh...

In the still of the night once again I hold you tight

Though you're gone, your love lives on when moonlight beams

And as long as my heart will beat, lover we'll always meet

Here in my deep purple dreams

Here in my deep purple dreams"

"

Apparently, Peter De Rose popularized the Tchaikovsky theme from "Souvenir d,un Leiu Cher" as

"Deep Purple" in 1934 for the piano. The lyrics were written by Mitchell Parish in 1939

My favorite recording was by Nino Tempo & April Stevens in 1963. In the break, April Stevens recited the lyrics breathlessly as Nino Tempo sang it. it was sooo very beautiful.
