Queen of Barbados Flower ๐๐ถ๐
Cropped to just one flower.
Caesalpinia pulcherrima is a species of flowering plant in the pea family, Fabaceae, native to the tropics and subtropics of the Americas.
This flowering bush could be native to the West Indies. The actual place of origin is unknown due to its widespread cultivation. Common names for this species include Poinciana, Peacock Flower, Red Bird of Paradise, Mexican Bird of Paradise, Dwarf Poinciana, Pride of Barbados, Flos Pavonis, and Flamboyant-de-Jardin.
Queen Elizabeth II is still the Queen of Barbados. Not as Queen of Great Britain, but as the royal monarch of Barbados. The cultivar that I bought at a local nursery, Catalina Nursery, 17 years ago was named after The Queen. When the owner, who carefully cultivated his plants, died, his son sold the business. Much to my chagrin, it no longer functions as a nursery.
Very nice photos here:
