Water Under The Bridge ❣️
Good news!! Water Is Flowing in Tucson's Rillito River ❣️
Looking downstream to the west at water flowing under the bridge on Dodge Blvd. This is in Tucson, Arizona in the American southwest. I shot only the portion of the river bed in which water is flowing. The actual riverbed is at least twice this width. The sandy soil on the right is material deposited by water rushing on the mountain. This whole 30 mile wide valley is filled with eroded gravel and sand to a depth of about 5000 feet. It is an extinct volcano. The rim mountains were very tall when the volcano went dormant.
Looks like maintenance crew need to haul away all this sand and gravel so the river doesn't cause a flood if and when more rain falls. They are currently clearing out another portion of the riverbed.
This is Tucson's winter monsoon and we have had quite a bit of rain in the valley and even snow on the mountains. However, we are in the midst of a ten year drought. If it keeps raining for a few more weeks, this flow will rise a lot and the river will fill the riverbed and rise all the way up the banks of the rivers and washes. I saw that in the first few years of this 21st century. I hope we see that again. ❣️
