Rain In Tucson

We had over an inch (2.54 centimeters) of rain. To the west, there was approximately 2.5 inches (6.25 centimeters) of rain.

We are very happy to get rain. This is the summer monsoon. The water is from storms in the Pacific Ocean, usually via Baja California's Sea of Cortez in Mexico. We also have a winter monsoon which brings water from the Gulf of Mexico from storms originating in the Atlantic Ocean via the Caribbean Sea.

The other place I know that gets two monsoons per year, a summer and a winter monsoon, is southern India. Both places have a triangular peninsula type land mass between two large bodies of water, and lie in the trade wind latitudes. The trade winds reverse direction twice yearly. Half the year they head east, and half the year they head west.
