Barrel Distortion at 16mm In Arizona Ballet Theatre's Studio B
I am testing this lens for use in the theatre. I went to the studio on sunday to see how it performs there. The Tamron 16-300mm lens exhibits some barrel distortion at the wide angle end of the zoom range. That means the dancers nearest to the wings of the stage will be slightly smaller than those in the center of the stage. I think I will repeat this at 17 and 18 mm.
The theatre does not typically have such strong horizontal lines, so it will most likely look natural, and it will enable me to photograph the entire stage without going all the way to the rear of the theatre. That is what I have had to do with the current Canon 18-135mm lens.
As an aside, I was delighted, while shooting this series in the studio, that I did not appear in the viewfinder in this wide angle shot into the mirror. I now see that, unexpectedly, I actually am in this photo. Can you spot me? Hint, I'm pretty small and my head is chopped off...;-)
