Sacred Datura Bud Vignette

I planted this plant in the spring of 2014 in my backyard garden near the pool. I grew similar plants years ago but this earlier plants were killed by a protracted deep freeze in spell two winters ago. This Sacred Datura has at least twelve buds that should all open in the next few days and nights. I will try to keep track of their progress. The flowers will not last long once they open.

The flower including the leaf-like base structure that you see here, is six inches long. Thats about 152 millimeters. When I shot this, I hadn't gotten around to pruning the nearby Lantana plant, after my self inflicted finger wound last week. So, the leaves you see below the Sacred Datura flower are Lantana leaves.

Because of my Nature Walks in Sabino Canyon last winter and spring, I now know that Sacred Datura is a riparian plant growing along the banks of Sabino Creek. It grows under large trees in filtered sunlight, though some plants are in the sun most of the day.
